Concrete is well known as a superior, yet affordable, building material because of its excellent qualities of versatility and durability. Concrete is now also gaining approval and much support as a material in kitchens and bathrooms around the world for its clean look, its stain–resistance, and for its longevity.
The special formula by which we make Creative Stone products consists of carefully proportioned ingredients engineered to maximise strength, durability, and of course, beauty. We use our hands in all stages of production, including the finishing processes, leaving a surface that is beautiful and smooth to the touch.
Concrete is, just like other natural stone such as marble, a porous material that without sealing will stain. That is why we use a 3rd generation high–performance penetrating sealer to protect the surface. Our products possess excellent stain resistance properties, although they are not stain proof, which will ensure that the Creative Stone products maintain their natural beauty for a very long time. Our tests have shown no stains from red wine, lemon, vinegar, beetroot, bleach... (and many other common household substances) after being left on the surface for 15 hours.
Naturally, we still recommend taking good care of your product by attending to spills when they occur and by avoiding to use harsh chemicals, abrasives, or acids on the surface. Clean as normal using a mild cleaner. Buff the surface with a soft cloth and wax to enhance the shine and colour of your product. Also note that, in the unlikely event that the surface is damaged, it is possible to re–seal, re–finish, or repair.
Creative Stone concrete products also have very good heat resistance and will not be affected by heat generated from stovetops, braais or similar. However, as many other natural stone materials, concrete may be damaged by sudden and rapid temperature changes so to be safe we recommend not putting pots and pans straight onto the surface.
Cutting straight on the surface will dull knives and it will damage the sealer. So we always recommend using a cutting board. However, because of the hardness of a Creative Stone product, thanks to its materials and proper curing process, it is very durable and will not break or crack. Hairline cracks may occur over time, due to movement or temperature change, but they are part of the natural stony character of the concrete. Hairline cracks really are as small as a hair and will not trap debris or affect the structural integrity of the product.
